Grown in the lush highlands of Kenya, Murarandia AB comes from Kiharu in Murang’a, where coffee thrives on the fertile red volcanic soils that stretch along the slopes of the Aberdare range. At elevations between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above sea level, warm days and cool nights slow the maturation of the cherries, allowing sugars to develop gradually and building the foundation for vibrant, complex flavours. The coffee is produced by more than 670 smallholder farmers who deliver their harvest to Murarandia Factory, operated by the New Murarandia Farmers Cooperative Society. Most farmers cultivate less than one hectare, intercropping coffee with food crops while focusing on sustainable practices and careful farm management.

The farmers grow classic Kenyan varieties—SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian, known for their resilience and cup quality. Cherries are selectively handpicked at peak ripeness and delivered to the factory the same day. At intake, they are meticulously sorted and floated to remove less dense fruit. The coffee is then fully washed: pulped, fermented for 12 to 24 hours, thoroughly washed with clean water, and soaked before being dried slowly on raised beds for 14 to 18 days. During drying, workers rake the parchment frequently and protect it from intense midday sun and night time moisture, ensuring even and controlled drying. This careful, traditional Kenyan washed process highlights clarity and brightness in the final cup. The AB grade indicates screen sizes 15–18, contributing to uniform roasting and a refined filter profile.

Roasted for filter, Murarandia delivers a vibrant and expressive cup with notes of blueberry, pineapple, and honey. A bright, juicy acidity lifts the tropical sweetness, while a silky body carries through to a clean, lingering finish—lively, elegant, and distinctly Kenyan in character.
