High in the lush hills of Murang’a, between 1,700 and 1,900 meters, 571 smallholder farmers bring their ripe cherries to the Kiriaini Factory, part of the Thikagiki Cooperative. Here, on the red volcanic slopes overlooking the Aberdares, coffee grows slowly under warm days and cool nights, developing its signature sweetness.
After careful handpicking, the cherries are fully washed, fermented overnight, and dried on raised beds under the sun — a process that brings out remarkable clarity and brightness.
Behind every cup of Kiriaini are 571 smallholder farmers who cultivate their coffee on small family plots nestled in the hills of Murang’a. These farmers are part of the Thikagiki Cooperative, which not only processes and markets their harvest but also provides training, access to resources, and a shared sense of purpose. Each handpicked cherry represents the dedication of families who have passed down their craft for generations, working together to preserve both quality and community.
In the cup, Kiriaini AB is lively and elegant, with notes of blackcurrant, red apple, and citrus, a honeyed sweetness, and a clean, tea-like finish — a vibrant taste of Kenya’s highlands.
