High in the lush highlands of Guji, Ethiopia, the Okoluu Farmers’ Group cultivates coffee on small family farms averaging just two hectares each. At altitudes reaching 2,150 meters above sea level, these fertile, rain-rich slopes produce some of Ethiopia’s most expressive coffees. Once part of the larger Sidamo region, Guji has since gained international acclaim for its unique soil and vibrant, fruit-forward cup profiles.
The 33 farmers who contribute to this lot follow traditional, organic farming practices, intercropping coffee with food crops to enrich the soil and sustain their families. Their trees—mostly young and healthy, between one and seven years old—include both JARC-improved varieties and local landraces, prized for their natural resilience and flavor diversity.
After careful handpicking, only the ripest cherries are selected and naturally dried on raised beds under the Guji sun. Farmers turn the cherries frequently over the course of two to three weeks, allowing sugars and fruit notes to develop fully. The result is a clean, sweet, and aromatic coffee that perfectly captures Guji’s high-altitude character.
When brewed, Okoluu bursts with bright orange citrus, tropical papaya sweetness, and a juicy red grape finish. It’s a lively, fruit-forward cup that embodies the vibrant spirit of Ethiopian coffee—refreshing, sweet, and endlessly complex.
